Abel Mendoza Malvasía 2019

Abel Mendoza Malvasía 2019

Abel Mendoza Malvasía 2019
is the wine that opened up the way to the rest of the winery's monovarietals. Many of the grapes come from vines over 50 years old located in poor clay-calcareous soils. The approximate yield is 5,400 kg / ha. The harvest was carried out manually and the grapes fermented in new French oak barrels, in which they remained for 5 more months on their fine lees. It was bottled in April 2020.

TASTING NOTES (Published in El Club September 2020)
Abel Mendoza Malvasía 2019 has a straw yellow colour, very pale and bright. On the nose it is very refined and aromatic, with notes of flowers and white and citrus fruits that recall the skin of lemon and apricot with intense notes of fresh fennel, a touch of anise and nutmeg. On the palate it is voluminous and corpulent with a silky texture that caresses the palate as it passes. A good freshness makes it very balanced and vibrant. The finish is persistent and delicious, with notes of yellow plum and a slight hint of orange blossom. A precise and pleasant white wine, perfect to accompany from an aperitif to a table of cold cuts and cheeses, white meats with light sauces, seafood and grilled fish. To be enjoyed from now on and for the next 6 years between 6 and 8ºC in the Viognier / Chardonnay glass from the Veritas series by Riedel (6449/05) or in the Riesling glass from the Vinum series by Riedel (6416/15).

"Abel Mendoza Malvasía 2019 is a wine that recovers one of the traditional varieties from La Rioja, which almost disappeared from the area when it was forgotten by winegrowers due to its sensitivity to botrytis and the irregularity of the vintages", affirm Abel Mendoza and Maite Fernández.
