Finca Nueva Crianza 2015

Finca Nueva Crianza 2015
is made with Tempranillo variety from a Briones vineyard with an average age of 35 years. The vines grow on calcareous soils and are managed with glass pruning following a sustainable cultivation. Manual harvest and subsequent manual selection of bunches at the entrance to the winery. De-stemmed and uncrushed bunches are encumbered in stainless steel tanks and cold maceration at 5ºC for 6 days. It fermented at a controlled temperature of 28ºC for 10 days, with three pump-overs per day, total maceration with the skins for 16 days, uncovered by gravity and vertical pressing. The malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and the wine remained for 12 months in Bordeaux barrels of 50% French and 50% American oak. This vintage was characterized by a dry and moderately cold winter, followed by a warm and sunny spring with abundant rains in April and May. Flowering took place the second week of June with hot and dry weather and, although July was extraordinarily hot, the vineyard held out thanks to the abundant water reserves in May. The veraison was the first week of August, a dry and moderately warm month. On September 1, there was a huge rain storm, but fortunately the excellent sanitary conditions and the fresh winds from the north prevented the appearance of the dreaded botrytis. Both September and October were warm and sunny months. A vintage with a perfect ripening and state of the grape. The harvest took place from September 22nd to October 14th.

TASTING NOTES (Published in El Club September 2020)
Finca Nueva Crianza 2015 has a nice deep and bright ruby colour. Seductive on the nose with intense notes of ripe red and black fruits, such as cherries, blueberries and blackberries that are joined by notes of Mediterranean undergrowth, a delicate memory of violets and toasted wood. On the palate it is lively and balanced, like a currant juice with some tannins present that give it body and weight. Delicious notes of currants and a hint of black pepper persist at the end of the mouth. A perfect red wine to accompany roasted red meats, poultry, small game and cured goat or sheep cheeses. To be enjoyed from now on and for the next 4 years served between 15 and 17ºC in the Chianti glass of the Vinum de Riedel series (6416/15) or in the Cabernet / Merlot glass of the Vinum de Riedel series (6416/0).
