Marcel Deiss Gewurztraminer 2016

Marcel Deiss Gewurztraminer 2016

In Alsace, Marcel Deiss comes from a family of winegrowers who has been rooted in the region for more than 300 years. Her son Mathieu Deiss (pictured) is still linked to the family winery, in addition to having his personal project. The winery's philosophy is to let the terroir express its maximum potential, using techniques such as those of co-plantation. Its Gewurztraminer 2016 is a delicate bottle with aromas of flowers such as rose and spices such as ginger. A wine that totally envelops the palate, with a perfect balance between acidity and freshness.

Marcel Deiss Gewurztraminer 2016
is made exclusively from Gewurztraminer planted on calcareous soils from Bergheim, a poor granite hillside in Saint Hippolyte. It is made following the oldest precepts of the region's winemaking tradition, which is based on three principles: respect for the subsoil and its geological origin, the creation and maintenance of soil aeration through plowing and control of the vineyard. After the harvest, the entire bunch was pressed for a long time to continue with fermentation with native yeasts. The wine was aged on its lees for a year and bottled after a slight filtration.

TASTING NOTES (Published in El Club July 2020)
Marcel Deiss Gewurztraminer 2016 has a beautiful, limpid and very bright yellow colour with slightly golden reflections. On the nose it is very intense and fragrant, with the scent of white flowers and roses, citrus notes of lemon and orange peel along with a multitude of fleshy fruits such as ripe peaches under a light spicy note of cinnamon. On the palate it is thick, oily and fully envelops the mouth with a perfect balance between acidity and freshness. It is not absolutely dry, but its sweetness makes it tender and very very long. A delicate bottle with aromas of flowers such as rose and spices such as ginger that will perfectly accompany Asian and spicy cuisine, roasted white meats, light rice and cheeses such as munster or livarot. To be enjoyed from now on and for the next seven years - served between 11 and 13ºC - in the Riesling glass from the Vinum series by Riedel (446/15) or the Viognier glass from the Veritas series by Riedel (6449/05).
