Palacios Remondo Quiñón de Valmira 2016
Quiñón de Valmira 2016 is the third vintage of an exceptional Garnacha from Palacios Remondo, the winery of Álvaro Palacios and his family in Alfaro (Eastern Rioja).
It originates from a single 3-hectare vineyard located in the namesake site on Monte Yerga.
This is a long hillside with a gentle slope where the Garnacha vines—32 years old at the 2016 harvest—grow alongside 10% of other red grape varieties.
The soil consists of a thin layer of red clay over a limestone base, which enhances the delicate expression of red fruit. Fermentation occurred spontaneously in wooden tuns, and aging was extended for 17 months in an oval foudre.
Only 3,000 bottles and 95 magnums were produced of this wine, which exhibits extraordinary finesse in a low-yield vintage, with great concentration of aromas and freshness—an indication of excellent aging potential.
