Susana Esteban Procura 2015

Susana Esteban Procura 2015

Procura 2015 is a coupage of 55% Alicante Bouschet and 45% native varieties from the Portalegre vineyard. This wine is born from the first two plots that Susana Esteban found after two years of searching. While one of them hides a very low-yielding Alicante Bouschet vineyard, planted in shale soils, near Évora, the second plot mantains a traditional mixed vineyard in a much cooler part of Alentejo with extremely low yields that adds unusual characteristics to the wine. The grapes were harvested manually in boxes of 20 kg and selected in the winery. The wine was vinified in small stainless steel presses at a controlled temperature and aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, 30% new and 70% second year. The 4,490 bottles produced were bottled in April 2018.

TASTING NOTES (Published in El Club de January 2020)
Procura 2015 has a seductive deep maroon colour with ruby reflections. On the nose it is shy and little by little seductive and concentrated aromas of blacker and redder fruits appear at the right point of maturation that are combined with intense spicy aromas of black pepper, licorice and cloves. On the palate it is wide and voluminous, the wine envelops the palate with a texture full of juicy and round tannins, structured by a good freshness that provides a perfect balance. Intense and pleasant final memories of currants, coffee and a touch of eucalyptus. Ideal to accompany grilled red meats, small game with seasonal mushrooms and cured cheeses. To be enjoyed from now on and for the next 7 years, served between 16 and 18ºC, in a Cabernet / Merlot glass from the Vinum de Riedel series (6416/0) or a Syrah from the Vinum de Riedel series (6416/30).

In the words of Susana Esteban: “2015 was an exceptional year in Portugal, Procura 2015 is made from alicante bouschet and a vineyard over 85 years old located in the northern part of Serra de São Mamede. A wine with a lot of personality, structure and freshness ”.
