ELABORATION
Torelló 225 Brut Nature 2016 is a coupage made up of 51% Xarel lo, 32% Macabeu and 17% Parellada from the Can Martí Estate, from their own vineyards grown organically. The bunches were harvested by hand and quickly transported in 25 kg boxes or small trailers. Each variety was gently and separately pressed, and from each one the flower must (first pressing) was used. These presses have Inertys technology that protects the must from oxidation during this phase. After the first fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine passed through 225-litre French Allier oak barrels, the name of this Corpinnat (Torelló 225). Aged for more than 36 months in the bottle with an annual poignettage (shaking of the bottle) so that the yeasts re-mix with the wine and gain in complexity and texture. It was manually clarified on desks and slaughtered without the addition of sugars.
In its 2012 vintage, it has been recognized as "Best Wine" by the Vins de Catalunya 2021 Guide, ahead of 1,359 wines from 238 wineries from all over Catalonia blind tasted. It has also received the award for "Best sparkling wine" and "Best traditional blend wine".
The 2016 vintage was marked by drought, with a very dry spring and early summer, which only registered a 25-litre / m2 storm - very well received - during the third week of July. This lack of rain meant a lower production, but an excellent sanitary state of the grapes. The harvest took place from August 11th to September 13th.

TASTING NOTES (Published in El Club December 2020)
Torelló 225 Brut Nature 2016
has a subtle golden colour, very limpid and bright with a fine bubble and fast and constant release. On the nose it is fragrant and delicate, with notes of flowers and white fruits such as apricot, hazelnuts and toasted almonds and a delicate hint of bread crumbs. On the palate it has a voluminous texture with an explosive and creamy bubble that invades the entire palate. A good freshness makes the whole harmonious and pleasant with a honeyed and round sensation at the end of the mouth, where delicious aromas of cooked apple and toasted bread appear. An elegant and versatile Corpinnat perfect to accompany a meal from start to finish, from an aperitif to meat and fish with light sauces, seafood, rice and creamy cheeses. To enjoy from now on and for the next 5 years served, between 6 and 8ºC, in the Champagne Glass from the Veritas series by Riedel (449/28) or in the Champagne glass from the Vinum by Riedel series (446/48).

“225 is a Corpinnat sparkling wine made with an organic base wine, aged in 225-litre barrels, with absolute precision. Fine and creamy bubbles, with smoky notes and long ageing. Tasteful and powerful ”, says Toni de la Rosa Torelló.
